Nanna Riis Andersen’s Sven Hols Award
Congratulations to Nanna Riis Andersen who has been awarded the prestigious SVEN HOLS LEGAT 2020 alongside with Jens Axel Beck and Fie Norsker.
The Sven Hols Award was founded in 2000 by the estate of Sven Holger Schmidt and his wife, Mrs Else Liddy Schmidt, with the aim of awarding grants of honour to Danish painters in recognition of their remarkable artistic work.
The Board's motivation for awarding the grant is as follows: ”Nanna Riis Andersen's artistic practice unfolds in an interaction between drawing and sculpture and basically revolves around the body, its extension into space and encounter with the world. Where her large meticulous drawings often appear as a form of mapping of the body's internal connections and anatomical structure and network, Nanna Riis Andersen's sculptural objects often appear as a form of rejected, earlier body parts that have now left the body's interior and become part of the external common world.
In the meeting between drawings and sculptures, a kind of tangible middle world is formed, where subject and object merge or dissolve each other and make us insecure about the boundaries between ourselves and the world. The experience is supported by the works' both delicate and repulsive materiality and aesthetics, which both attract and reject our senses.
For her unique and consistent studies of body and world, Nanna Riis Andersen is awarded Sven Hols' Award 2020 ”.
